JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, directs all sales force in selling newspaper subscriptions print and digital; develops sales programs and directs sales personnel in assigning areas of responsibility; recruits, hires, trains, and evaluates sales personnel; insures correct completion of subscription order forms; provides written reports and follow-ups concerning customer complaints; refers subscribers to Customer Service as needed; performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under general supervision, directs all sales force in selling newspaper subscriptions-coordinates and supervises all sales personnel in selling newspaper subscriptions for home or digital delivery; contacts potential and current subscribers either over the phone or in person; makes sales presentations.
Develops sales programs and directs sales personnel in assigning areas of responsibility-in assigned are of operation develops subscription sales and sales incentive programs for all sales personnel to obtain new and retain current subscribers.
Recruits, hires, trains, and evaluates sales personnel-places advertisement; contacts groups and individuals to hire sales personnel; interviews, selects, and trains sales persons; develops and approves work schedules and periodically critiques and evaluates sales presentations of all personnel.
Insures correct completion of subscription order forms and weekly sales reports-insures written order forms are legible and accurate; pays close attention to direction, special requests, and/or special messages; provides support and guidance in assisting personnel in correcting errors.
Provides written reports and follow-ups of customer complaints-completes or has completed complaint forms and forwards them to the Customer Service Department.
Refers subscribers to Customer Service as needed.
Maintains records of sales, weekly sales, and other administrative reports.

Skill in driving on varied road surfaces in adverse weather.
Ability to or ability to learn to recruit, interview, hire, and supervise personnel.
Ability to sell newspaper subscriptions.

Ability to navigate varied terrain on foot.
Ability to keep and submit accurate financial reports.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years sales experience with at least one (1) year experience in newspaper sales.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Lifting up to 20 pounds from a level of 0 inches to 36 inches.
Sitting up to 8 hours per day.
Walking up to 1 hour per day on a variety of surfaces.
Carrying up to 20 pounds 50 feet up to 5 times per day.
Twisting, kneeling, bending, and wrist movements are required.
Finger dexterity is required.
Climbing both ascending and descending stairs.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Position is occasionally exposed to loud noises.
Position is routinely exposed to glare (VDT).
TRANSPORTATION:
Must possess or be able to obtain a VALID driver’s license.
Driving record must meet the requirements set in the “Personal Vehicles Used for Company Business” policy. Must have and provide own reliable transportation.
Must provide CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE, with Arkansas Democrat-Gazette listed as an “Interested Party.”
ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION:
This position reports to the Circulation Director.
